Terms of Service

Welcome to FamilyLore. These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of the website at familylore.ai, our mobile applications, and related handwriting transcription, translation, and educational services (collectively, the “Service”), operated by Yojowa LLC (“we,” “us,” or “FamilyLore”).
By accessing or using the Service, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree to these Terms, please do not use the Service.
1. The Service
FamilyLore provides artificial intelligence tools to assist you in transcribing, deciphering, and translating historical handwritten documents (such as family letters, postcards, and records), as well as educational materials for learning historical scripts (including Russian cursive, Ukrainian, German Kurrent, Sütterlin, Hebrew cursive, and American cursive).
AI-generated transcriptions, translations, and historical notes are provided for research, educational, and personal informational purposes. Handwritten manuscripts vary substantially in legibility, condition, and dialect; while we strive for high accuracy, AI outputs may contain errors, omissions, or misinterpretations. You should independently verify critical historical or legal information.
2. Accounts and Access
You may access certain features of the Service as an anonymous visitor subject to trial limits. To save documents across sessions and access features such as Documents and Collections, you must sign in using a supported third-party identity provider (such as Google).
You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your session and credentials. You agree to notify us immediately of any unauthorized use of your account. You may delete your account at any time as described in § 7 below.
3. Uploaded Content and Rights
- Your ownership. You retain all copyright, ownership, and other proprietary rights in the images, documents, and materials you upload to the Service (“User Content”).
- Limited processing license. By submitting User Content, you grant FamilyLore and its necessary service providers (such as hosted AI model providers and cloud infrastructure hosts) a limited, non-exclusive, worldwide license to host, process, analyze, and display your User Content solely to generate transcriptions, translations, and overlays, and to provide the Service to you.
- Privacy by default. Your uploaded documents and transcriptions are private to your session or account by default. If you explicitly use the Share feature to generate a shareable link, anyone with that link will be able to view the shared document and its transcription.
- Representations. You represent and warrant that you own or have the necessary rights and permissions to upload your User Content and to grant the limited processing license described above.
4. Subscriptions and Payments
- Free tier allowances. FamilyLore offers free page allowances for anonymous visitors and signed-in accounts, subject to change or rate limits to prevent abuse.
- Paid subscriptions. Additional transcription capacity may be purchased as a recurring monthly subscription on our website. Subscriptions are billed through Stripe and auto-renew at the start of each billing cycle until cancelled.
- Cancellation and refunds. You can cancel your subscription at any time through your account billing settings. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing cycle, and you will retain paid access until that date. Subscription fees are non-refundable except where required by applicable law. If you delete your account while an active subscription is in effect, the subscription is set to cancel at the end of the current billing period with no subsequent renewals, and billing records are retained by Stripe per statutory accounting requirements.
- App mode and mobile stores. Mobile applications operate in consumption-only mode for existing account entitlements and free allowances. Web-activated subscriptions apply to your signed-in account across platforms.
5. Acceptable Use
You agree to use the Service only for lawful purposes. You agree not to:
- Upload content that is illegal, defamatory, obscene, invasive of another’s privacy, or infringes any third party’s intellectual property rights.
- Scrape, crawl, harvest, or extract data or AI-generated training data from the Service using automated means without our prior written consent.
- Circumvent, bypass, or attempt to defeat authentication controls, usage quotas, rate limits, or security mechanisms.
- Interfere with, disrupt, or impose an unreasonable load on our infrastructure, servers, or networks.
- Reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble any aspect of the Service except to the extent permitted by applicable law.
6. Intellectual Property
All rights, title, and interest in and to the Service — including our software, website design, branding, logos, script reference charts, historical prose, educational practice sheets, and interactive tools — are and remain the exclusive property of Yojowa LLC and its licensors. We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to access and use the Service in accordance with these Terms.
7. Account Deletion and Termination
You may delete your account at any time in your Account settings (see account deletion instructions) or by emailing support@familylore.ai. Account deletion permanently purges your account record, uploaded documents, transcriptions, and collections.
We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your access to the Service if you violate these Terms or engage in conduct that harms the Service, other users, or third parties.
8. Disclaimers
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED ON AN “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE” BASIS, WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, TITLE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT.
WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, OR SECURE, OR THAT TRANSCRIPTIONS OR TRANSLATIONS WILL BE ENTIRELY ACCURATE OR COMPLETE.
9. Limitation of Liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, YOJOWA LLC, ITS AFFILIATES, OFFICERS, EMPLOYEES, AGENTS, AND LICENSORS SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS, DATA, USE, GOODWILL, OR OTHER INTANGIBLE LOSSES, RESULTING FROM (A) YOUR ACCESS TO OR USE OF OR INABILITY TO ACCESS OR USE THE SERVICE; (B) ANY USER CONTENT OR CONDUCT OF ANY THIRD PARTY ON OR THROUGH THE SERVICE; OR (C) ANY UNAUTHORIZED ACCESS, USE, OR ALTERATION OF YOUR CONTENT OR TRANSMISSIONS.
10. Governing Law
These Terms and any dispute arising out of or related to them shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of Washington, United States, without regard to its conflict of law principles.
11. Changes to Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the Effective date at the top of this page. Your continued use of the Service following any update constitutes your acceptance of the revised Terms.
