Hippolyte Valmore to Gustave Revilliod

French · Latin cursive · 30 Apr 1866 · to Geneva

As written

30[?] avril 1866.

Bien cher Monsieur

et ami, j'ai reçu vos deux

portraits avec plaisir et

reconnaissance. Vous ne

pouvez encore venir : c'est

vous voir, sinon vous

parler. On dirait que

le plus ancien a été fait

sur un dessin ; je préfère

le second, mais surtout

celui qui accompagne

Madame votre mère.

Translation · English

30[?] April 1866.

Very dear Sir

and friend, I have received your two

portraits with pleasure and

gratitude. You cannot yet come: this is

seeing you, if not speaking

with you. One would say that

the older one was made

from a drawing; I prefer

the second, but above all

the one that accompanies

Madame your mother.
